World Water Day. 2019
22 March each year is global World Water Day. It is a mean of focusing attention on the importance of freshwater and advocating for the sustainable management of freshwater resources. The theme in 2019 is ‘Leaving no one behind’.

World Water Day tries to remind people about the significance of fresh water and to promote sustainability for fresh water resources’ management. It’s a day to celebrate water. It’s a day to prepare for how we manage water in the future.
Each year World Water Day highlights a specific aspect of freshwater. For 2019 this is: ‘Leaving no one behind’.
Water for all
When the 2030 Agenda was adopted in
2015 by the UN, all countries and stakeholders set out an ambitious
agenda envisaging a world free of poverty, hunger and disease. A world
where all life can thrive and where no one is left behind.
At a time of immense global challenges – poverty, inequalities, natural disasters, humanitarian crises and forced displacement – the 2019 edition of World Water Day looks at why people have been left behind and how access to water and sanitation and sustainable water management can be drivers of change.
Water for all implies that also elderly, disabled, marginalized and poor people get access to clean drinking water and proper sanitation, as is meant with universal access in Sustainable Development Goals #6.1 and 6.2.
Many events around the world
World Water Day was officially assigned to 22 March in 1993 by the United Nations General Assembly.
The event includes official and milestone events as well as many other events organised by various stakeholders around the world.
Among all activities, will be the publication of the United Nations World Water Development Report on the topic of the campaign.
Last year’s theme was The answer is in nature. World Water Day in 2020 will be about Climate change.
